It is with a heavy heart that we must cancel the ITH Hennesee Triathlon scheduled for Saturday. The reason is the current heat warning issued by the German Weather Service (DWD) and the associated health risks. “The decision was made to protect everyone involved—the participants, the numerous volunteers, and the visitors,” explains Frank Hohmann, CEO of ITH. “I have personally attended several sporting events of this kind, and given the forecasted temperatures and the associated health risks, it is not possible to carry out the event responsibly. The health and safety of everyone involved are our top priority.”
“This decision was not an easy one for us. As a team, we’ve been working toward this day for a whole year,” said Jörg Brouwer of Trifun Hennesee e. V. “Of course, we would have loved to carry out the triathlon, but the health of everyone involved takes priority—especially at a ‘open-to-all’ triathlon like ours here at Hennesee.”
Christina Wolff of Stadtmarketing Meschede adds: “The ITH Hennesee Triathlon is a special sporting highlight at Hennesee and is of great importance to our region. This cancellation is all the more painful. Ultimately, we bear responsibility for everyone, and we have therefore decided together to take this step.”
All registered participants will be contacted directly in a timely manner and informed about the refund process and next steps.
With the cancellation, the planned road closures have also been lifted. Roads and paths along the race route are therefore open to traffic as usual.
We would like to thank all the athletes, volunteers, partners, sponsors, and visitors for their understanding, and we hope to see you again at the next ITH Hennesee Triathlon on June 26, 2027. Registration will open on January 1, 2027.
