Application examples and function of the bolt tensioning cylinder type Segment
The bolt connections at a flange cover of a primary man hole connection M36 (1 3/8") at a Steam turbine at a power plant are tensioned by the ITH Segment cylinders at the same time to a precise result of the pre load.
The ITH speed mounting concept contains:
- Fast handling because of the modular design and ergonomic handles

- Square adapters are used for the fast connection between the cylinder and the bolt by using an battery-powered nut runner.
4 ITH Segment cylinders are connected together in a ring.
After the fast mounting of all 4 ITH Segment cylinders they are connected together to build up a hydraulic system. The full hydraulic system is then connected to a high-pressure hydraulic pump and then the calculated pressure is applied. By using the pre-tensioning of more bolts at the same time a precise result of the pre-load is applied. The possible risk of any leakage on flanges is reduced.
The bolt connections M48 (1 7/8") of the flange cover of a primary manhole connection at a steam generator in a power plant are tensioned by the Segment cylinder ring to achieve a precise and uniform result of the pre-tensioning force.
Easy installation of the digital measurement gauges: ITH clearly recommends the usage of the ITH documentation system PD / PSD by application of the ITH segment cylinder ring. The stretching of the bolts and the applied pre-tensioning force is measured by the digital documentation system by the digital gauges. The data is documented and analyzed by the ITH documentation software.

For the hand hole and inspection hole bolt connections M24 (7/8") at a steam turbine in a power plant ITH supplies bolt tensioning cylinders type segment M24. The dimensions of the flanges can be supplied by 2 segment cylinders. The Segment cylinder ring is built together into a hydraulic system and enable the direct pre-tensioning of more bolts at the same time.
Simultaneous tightening or loosening of a ring flange connection in one operation
In accordance to the bolt spacing and the dimensions of the flange more ITH Segment cylinders can be used at the same flanges as a Segment cylinder ring at the bolt connection of the flange. The segments are connected together into a hydraulic circuit and then connected to a hydraulic pump and then pressured up
Precise results by parallel tensioning
By using the parallel tensioning of all bolt connections you can achieve an even deviation of the pre-load of the bolt connection. ITH clearly recommends the usage of the ITH Documentation System PD / PSD, which covers a digital control and the documentation of the bolting processes that are done with these systems.
The precise tensioning with the ITH bolt tensioning cylinders remains in a lower risk of any leakage at the flange connection. The bolt connection is sustainable and safe. During the maintenance of the flange connection it can be opened and closed very easily.
